The Cardboard Treasure Chest

Inside my closet, I have tucked away a cardboard box collecting dust, full of mostly 70 page spiral bound notebooks. They’re the ones you can get for 50 cents or a dollar at back-to-school time? Beside it, there’s another basket collecting even more.

In my heart I call it my cardboard treasure chest. Its contents hold decades of prayer journaling and Bible studies… anchors of God’s faithfulness through my now 45 years of life. Though I regret having thrown away so many of these “chapters” over the years, I have preserved countless records of remembrance.

Every once in a while, I crack open my cardboard treasure chest to rehearse and recount stories of the past that have long since slipped my memory. These testimonies of God’s presence, holding, and carrying have been a source of deep comfort and bolstered my faith in trying times.

This week I listened to a podcast about the mental, physical, and spiritual health benefits of journaling. I’m including the link here because it was just SO good.

This is a brief post, but as I celebrate now being halfway to 90, I want to remember with deep gratitude the intentional, imperfect practice the Lord has allowed me to be generally faithful with over so many years of this beautiful and sometimes broken life. Glory to Him!
