Have you ever had a funny experience where you’ve thought, “I hope someone caught that on camera!”? Or at least saw it at a distance and got a good chuckle?
I had one of those “I hope someone else laughed with me” moments this morning while I was doing my Sunday morning shuffle out in the winter chill.
Thoroughly wrapped in layers of clothing, I was equally wrapped in layers of thoughts, worship, and prayer, with a specific Scripture coursing through my mind as I huffed and puffed through the cold.
Suddenly disrupted, it seemed the sidewalk jumped up right at the tip of my toes, and there I went stumbling, bumbling, and fumbling, trying to avoid a close encounter with the concrete.
It’s amazing how many thoughts can run through one’s mind in a split second like that!
I giggled with relief that I narrowly avoided a hard fall and then thought to myself, “I hope someone saw that and is giggling with me!”
Once my footing was re-set and I was settling back into my jog, I laughed again, remembering the Scripture I was just meditating on:
If I say, “My foot is slipping,” your faithful love will support me, Lord. When I am filled with cares, your comfort brings me joy. -Psalm 94:18-19
Though it was more of a trip than a slip, I couldn’t help but rejoice and laugh in the very literal way I felt God’s faithful love supporting me when I could have gone spilling onto the sidewalk. Did He smile and giggle with me? I’m not sure!
But it didn’t stop there! This morning was simply breathtaking. Colors were splashed across the sky, reflecting off of the lake around which I ran, and as I kept mentally sharing those cares I was filled with to the Lord, I couldn’t help but be comforted by the cloudy blanket that stretched across the sky. It caught a spectrum of color that filled me with awe…one of those mornings. My quick cell phone photo doesn’t do it justice; He is really just the best artist.
I don’t have time to unpack the whole Psalm in this writing, but I hope this little snapshot encourages your heart and meets you in whatever foot-slipping, care-filled moments you may have this week.
Read it again:
If I say, “My foot is slipping,” your faithful love will support me, Lord. When I am filled with cares, your comfort brings me joy. -Psalm 94:18-19
Sometimes the whispers of His love meet us in the most ordinary moments. Lord, help me not to miss them.
