This morning felt like a hug from God. The weather matched my mood. Cold, damp, and rainy, the air was still; the wind chime was silent. Death’s haunting tugged at my memory. The mental replay reminded me this was not a dream but an actual chapter in the story we have lived.
It seemed irresistible to join in the misery. I bundled in layers and laced up my shoes, delighting in a run I would typically avoid.
After one dreary hour of huffing, puffing, shuffling, and prayer, God brought to my mind so many of His attributes that make Him so set apart. So trustworthy. I “saw” Him and felt so seen. So held. So embraced by His tender grasp. Truly, His nearness is my good. Thank you, God.
While the morning presented a gloomy start, the clouds of my heart parted. Sunshine squeezed its way through. God carried those warm whispers into the preschool classroom, through the pages of Scripture, and it was a true privilege to celebrate with those precious children why God is so worthy of our worship.
Yes, Lord, thank you for this third chapter in the repeating cycle of MonaJean’s life.
But as for me, the nearness of God is my good. I have made the Lord God my refuge so that I may tell of all Your works. – Psalm 73:28
